Kindergarten

All nine Laveen schools offer free full-day kindergarten, providing students a rich academic curriculum that includes English language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, art, music, physical education, and technology.

Students who are five years old by August 31 of each year may enroll in Kindergarten. Children who reach age five by December 31 may be accepted based on level of readiness. Early entrance testing is conducted in May. See details on early entry below.

Laveen schools typically hold a Kindergarten information night for prospective families, in February. Families will have the opportunity to visit classrooms, meet the teachers, and register their child for the upcoming school year.

Early Entry Kindergarten

Currently, the District also allows an early entrance exception for those students who reach the age of five between September 1 and December 31 of the current year.

The decision to allow for an early entrance exception will be made when it is indicated that a child exhibits skills in areas of development that will most likely assure a successful and satisfactory kindergarten experience. A screening administered by the school will assess these areas of skill development. The screening process requires a non-refundable fee of $30, payable by cash or money order. Please be advised that children will only be screened once. No second screenings will be permitted. This process is for all schools except Vista del Sur Accelerated Academy. To enter one of these schools, please get in touch with their school office directly.

The school site will contact you to schedule a screening appointment for your child. Screenings will only be conducted during a testing window in May and July. After screening is complete the school will contact you with the screening results and to discuss the early entrance exception.
